My Approach To Counselling
I am an Integrative Counsellor; this means that I blend specific counselling and psychotherapy approaches (as outlined below). Sessions take their shape according to the needs of each individual client.
MY APPROACH INTEGRATES
This approach focuses on thoughts and feelings in existing situations, so as to enhance your understanding of how you relate to yourself and others. Offering a space for you to express your self, and facilitating self-awareness and self-development.
This approach aims to shed light on thoughts, feelings and behaviours that you may not yet be fully aware of; to explore patterns that might have developed throughout your childhood or personal history, that are now repeating in your adult life. The focus is on how past experiences may be contributing to present feelings and experiences, because painful issues in the present will often have their roots in the past.
I also integrate CBT, a solution focused approach, offering practical strategies to help you visualise and plan desired changes, and carry those changes forward into your everyday life. At times it can be helpful to bring in Mindfulness, a meditative approach that aims to cultivate awareness, and attention to the moment. This can be effective at calming stress and anxiety.
As a whole my therapeutic approach offers you a space to get new perspectives on your life, deepen understanding of your self, and address issues that you are unhappy with and wish to change.
